“The pieces I make are wheel thrown or hand-built and the glazes I make from scratch from earthen materials. Even the raku clay it made from reclaimed clay and grog - pulverized pre-fired clay particles”.
Raku – Is an ancient pottery technique initially used for hand-built tea cups for ceremonial tea ceremonies. Modern Western raku involves placing the red-hot pottery into combustible materials in a chamber which is then sealed, consuming the oxygen within, creating a reduction environment, and beautiful, unpredictable, glaze finishes result.
