Long-time residents of the picturesque Eastern Townships of Quebec, Richard and Susan Surette have been inspired by their location when creating their functional and sculptural ceramics and ceramic wall murals. Since 1976, their unique and acclaimed works have been shown in many solo and group exhibitions in some of Canada’s most prestigious craft galleries and are found in major public, corporate and private collections throughout North America. Working as a team, the Surettes stimulate each other’s creativity and technical expertise. Each piece is a new exploration into form, texture and colour, a dance of the elements choreographed by the makers. Susan Surette recently completed a PhD in Art History, specializing in Canadian ceramics, and now teaches at Concordia University, Montreal.
