Brian Kelk's whimsical Fish in a Bag; have become a recognizable trademark.Raised on his family's farm outside Peterborough, Ontario, Brian is a self-taught sculptor who has worked with wood, clay and stained glass. In 1989 he began his studies at the Alberta College of Art and Design in the Hot Glass Program and graduated in 1994. He now works from his Hot Shop; studio located on a provincially designated heritage site on a college campus southeast of Calgary. "I express myself with sculpture, either in surrealism or realism.I feel that glass is one of the most interesting mediums available to work with. The only thing that limits glass is one's own mind, and I have never placed any limits on my imagination. I love to teach my gained knowledge to other artists or students. The satisfaction I get from people enjoying my work is the heartbeat of my creations." "I face the same challenges as everyone else: time, and the lack of it.That is why it is increasingly important to me that I pursue and perfect my sculpting abilities. The ability to transform my imagination into reality is a gift that I am truly thankful for, but the satisfaction I get from people who enjoy my work is truly the heartbeat of my creations" |
