Marjolyn van der Hart

As a veteran painter, Marjolyn van der Hart, finds herself to be most inspired by the events of everyday life. Working from her own memories, it is important to Marjolyn that each piece depicts a particular moment in time. To develop on the emotion of each painting she has chosen to use warm colours juxtaposed against an intense texture that is developed by adding tissue paper and modeling paste to the acrylic paint.

“So often a person has an image a spark of a memory that is saturated with emotion. Many times there is an ambiguity to this image; a vagueness yet a crystal clear moment. Through the use of stark and subdued light my work attempts to draw the viewer into the moment of the narrative. The viewer is drawn into the subject and explores how the parts of the image relate to each other.”
