Lorraine was born in Pain-Court, a French Village in Kent County, South Western Ontario. Her earliest inspiration came from wandering along the Thames River, observing the wildlife and the seasonal changes of the woods. Lorraine attended the University of Guelph where she received her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, with a major in Ornamental Horticulture. Her love of sewing compelled her to expand her knowledge of quilting techniques, eventually leading her to a career as a textile artist. Her most recent work for Saving Paradise: The Arboretum Project for the University of Guelph Arboretum is the ultimate unification of her love of trees and the love of her craft. Lorraine is also a freelance teacher, speaker, and writer. She co-organized the annual London Artists’ Studio Tour, and has served as a Juror for the Ontario Arts Council Crafts Grants Program. Lorraine uses subtle tonal gradation, sumptuous materials, embroidered script, and complex construction in her work. The result is a complex 'fabric mosaic' with a rich density that compels the viewer to look closer. She draws from a rich history of metaphor and myth for inspiration. Elements of spirituality are often incorporated into her pieces to express a quiet narrative.
