Born in Latvia, Elizabete Ludviks is an honours graduate from the Ontario College of Art and Design in Toronto where she studied Material Art and Design. During her studies she began developing her style of portraying a precious lightness in; pieces made from weighty materials. Elizabete's concepts are often based on contrasts: geometric and organic, fragile and strong, precious and non- precious. Her use of ordinary pebbles, in particular, is unique in its challenge of the convention that jewellery is made solely of precious materials. She often expresses linear compositions in a three dimensional format creating finely detailed, yet playful pieces such as her Cube series. But the influence of her homeland and the traditional design elements of Eastern Europe can often be found in her designs. Elizabete's work is hand constructed from sterling silver and are truly one of a kind.
